Pakistan footballer Munir Aftab passes away [Geo Super]

Pakistan footballer Munir Aftab, who was also the former captain of the U16 national team, passed away on Tuesday due to kidney failure.

Munir spent his last days at the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT), where he was put on a ventilator due to deteriorating health condition.

The 26-year-old footballer’s funeral prayers took place at the Baghdari Mosque, Saifi Lane, with the burial at Mewa Shah Cemetery yesterday.

Under Aftab’s leadership, Pakistan won the 2011 SAFF U16 Championship in Nepal.

The Lyari-born, which is known as the hub for football in Pakistan, defender starting playing the game at the age of five.

Aftab participated in the U13 football festival in Iran when he was only 12-year-old. He also represented Pakistan at the U14 and U15 level. 

He was also among three Pakistan footballers, who travelled to Abu Dhabi and attended a month-long training camp at the Manchester United Soccer School in 2012.
