Pakistan lost to Mauritius by 2-1 in their second clash of the four-nation Cup after a thrilling contest at the Prince Saud bin Jalawi Stadium, Al-Khobar on Sunday.

After Mauritius took an early lead in the fourth minute via Jheemla Chiara, the Pak Shaheens skipper Maria Khan equalised for her side in the ninth minute, scoring the only goal for Pakistan.

In the second half, Pakistan’s goalkeeper Nisha Ashraf was exceptional as she denied a penalty. But minutes later, Mauritius took the lead in the 64th minute with a wonder strike from distance by Goapaul Juliemarie.

However, Pakistan had the chance to equalise as they were given a penalty, but skipper Maria couldn’t capitalise on the opportunity as she failed to convert it.

Earlier on Wednesday, a late winner by Anmol Hira helped Pakistan seal a 1-0 win in the opening game.

The Pak Saheens’ skipper Maria Khan anticipated a goal kick in the 89th minute and put it directly in the box, but the Comoros defender didn’t manage to clear the ball just outside the box.

However, it wasn’t enough as Maria lofted the ball back in the box, and after the opposition defenders failed to clear the threat, forward Anmol Hira placed the ball to the right side of the goalkeeper, helping Pakistan get a 1-0 lead.

Meanwhile, their final encounter is against Saudi Arabia on January 19.

It must be noted that the SAFF Women’s Championship was the first time in eight years that the Pakistan women’s team participated in an international match.
