Army, Diya, Highlanders begin NWFC with wins

KARACHI: Defending champions Army started their 2021 National Women’s Football Championship campaign with a solid win while Highlanders WFC and Diya WFC registered big victory on Day Two of the annual competition on Wednesday, 10 March.

Army beat Jafa WFC 3-0 with Swaiba Sarfraz scoring a brace and Pakistan veteran Hajra Khan netting in one goal in the Group ‘C’ match at the KMC Stadium.

In the other match of the group at the KPT Stadium, Riaz Kamil FC played a 1-1 draw against FC Karachi. Wania Hasan scored for FC Karachi while Areeba equalized for Riaz Kamil FC.

In Group ‘D’, Islamabad-based Highlanders WFC scored 16 goals past Abbotabad’s Nawanshehr United Football Academy at the KPT Football Stadium. Nazalia was the highest scorer with six goals, while Asmara Habib netted four. Kafia Karim and Pakistan international Abiha Haider a brace each while Fatima Qayyum slotted in one goal.

At the KMC Stadium, Diya WFC kicked off their 2021 NWFC campaign with a 13-0 win against Mohsen Gilani WFC. Zunaira scored the most for the winners, netting five goals. Marium Zehri, Ameerah and Shumaila scored two goals each while Aliya Jhallka and Kiran Qureshi managed a goal each.
