PAF, Army register hard fought wins in Challenge Cup

Lahore: Pakistan Air Force beat Sui Northern Gas Pipelines 2-1, Baloch FC Noushki thrashed Pakistan Police 3-0 and Pakistan Army edged Higher Education Commission 1-0 on the fourth day of the 2020 National Challenge Cup on Wednesday.

Captained by seasoned Pakistan international Mansoor Khan, PAF played an interesting encounter with fellow Pakistan Premier League side SNGPL in their Group ‘G’ match at the Punjab Stadium.

It was Mansoor who scored the first goal of the match, giving PAF the lead at the 47th minute. SNGPL responded with positivity and threaded some passes that lead to the equalizer, a clinical finish by Samad Khan in the 53rd minute.

Although, both teams continued to create chances, it was Irfan Ali who scored the winner for PAF by tapping the ball in the net in a crowded box following a corner kick in the 71st minute.

In the other Group ‘G’ match, Hazara Coal Company drew against Nimso Organization at the Fame FC Ground.

In Group ‘A’, Baloch FC Noushki sprung back from their 2-0 defeat against Army in their first match by beating Pakistan Police 2-0. Fahim Baloch and Aurangzaib scored for the winners in the 52nd and 87th minutes.

At the Fame FC Ground, Zafar’s 92nd minute strike helped Army edge HEC. The late win ensured Army a place in the Round-of-16.
