FIFA to name new PFF NC chairman after mandate extended [Dawn]

KARACHI: Global football body FIFA is expected to name a replacement for outgoing Pakistan Football Federation Normalisation Committee chairman Humza Khan by the first week of the New Year after it extended the mandate of its appointed body by six months.

Humza had offered his resignation at the start of December and left his post midway through this month with Munir Sadhana having been made acting chairman of the Normalisation Committee which was appointed in September last year and will now continue until June 30 by which time the elections of the PFF have to be held.

Interviews of prospective candidates to the post were to be held this week but were postponed until the first week of January.

“The Bureau of the FIFA Council has decided to extend the mandate of the PFF Normalisation Committee, which was due to expire on 31 December 2020, until all tasks have been completed, but until no later than 30 June 2021,” FIFA said in a news release on Thursday night.

“The decision was taken with the primary objective of allowing the Normalisation Committee to fulfil all of the tasks entrusted to it in its mandate.

“In addition, following the decision of the chairman of the Normalisation ommittee to step down from his position by the end of 2020, FIFA will appoint a new chairperson in due course, who will have to pass an eligibility check to be carried out by the FIFA Review Committee in accordance with the FIFA Governance Regulations.”

Since taking over as acting chairman, Sadhana has overturned most of the decisions taken by Humza.

General secretary Manizeh Zainli, whose contract was terminated by Humza, has been reinstated with Sadhana citing that the move to remove her from the post was illegal.

Sadhana claimed to the Normalisation Committee members that Manizeh’s appointment had been approved by FIFA but Dawn has learnt on authority that the approval came with the condition that she will leave the office once her contract expires at the end of this year.

Among other decisions, Chaudhry Saleem, who was appointed as the election committee secretary, has been stopped from working due to a conflict of interest complaint while the provincial normalisation committees have also been restrained.

Those decisions might be reversed again when a new chairman is appointed. However, there is a strong likelihood that there might be wholesale changes in the Normalisation Committee once Humza’s replacement comes in.

The move to appoint an election committee is also set to be debated with the PFF Normalisation Committee having been asked to act as the electoral committee when it was appointed last year.

Earlier this month, FIFA changed the composition of the entire Normalisation Committee of the Egyptian FA. A similar move can be expected here if FIFA doesn’t see progress in the working of the PFF Normalisation Committee during this interim period.
