Masha smash 10-man GPA in PFF League

KARACHI: Masha United beat Gwadar Port Authority (GPA) 3-0 to go top in the 12th Pakistan Football Federation League ‘B’ Division Final Round Departmental Leg standings on Monday.

With a draw and two wins, GPA were placed top in the standings due to a higher goal difference than second placed Masha United ahead of the match.

But a straight red card shown to goalkeeper Zameer Anwar after an off-the-ball incident early in the match dealt a massive blow to GPA at the Drigh Road Union Stadium in Karachi.

The team from the port city of Gwadar did try to keep possession and attempt attacks despite being a man down. However, it got difficult for them when Ahtasham Raza scored from a well-placed finish in the 31st minute for Masha United.

Farrukh Zia’s second half brace to help Masha United post three goals against GPA. Zia exploited space left by GPA trying to get back in the game scored a header in the 71st minute and tapped in to score his second in the 88th minute and complete 3-0 rout for Faisalabad’s Masha United.

The match ended on an acrimonious note with GPA visibly unhappy and quarrelsome.

The result all but confirms Masha United’s promotion to next year’s Pakistan Premier League with 10 points from 4 games.

Gwadar Port Authority remain at 7 points from 4 games and have an uphill task for promotion. Either they must beat Karachi United in their final group game on 25 October or for Railways and PACA failing to win their remaining PFF League Final Round Department Leg matches.

3rd place Karachi United will look to take advantage of GPA’s slip and rise to 2nd after a win against Pakistan Police tomorrow, 20 October. Quetta-based Police are currently bottom with 0 points after suffering heavy defeats in their games so far.
