AFC U16 Qualifiers – Group D: Saudi Arabia take their place in Finals

Al Khobar: Saudi Arabia advanced to the AFC U-16 Championship 2020 Finals as Group D winners of the Qualifiers after playing to a 0-0 draw with Oman on Sunday.

Both teams had entered the tie on six points with Saudi Arabia ahead on goal difference and that ultimately proved enough for the two-time champions to seal the automatic slot.

Oman 0-0 Saudi Arabia

Both teams had impressed in their earlier matches, with Oman having beaten Pakistan 2-0 and Syria 1-0 while Saudi Arabia had defeated Syria 4-1 and Pakistan 4-2.

There was nothing much separating the sides and a hard-fought match ended 0-0.

Syria 1-1 Pakistan

Syria and Pakistan ended their qualifying campaign without a win as the two played to a draw in their final Group D tie on Sunday.

A tight first half saw neither side able to find a breakthrough and the second half also saw limited chances.

Moin Ahmed, however, finally broke the deadlock for Pakistan in the 64th minute and the South Asians looked to have sealed the three points as the match went into added time.

Syria, however, denied them victory as Omar Jabra struck a minute into added time as the points were shared.
