SSGC draw blank, SNGPL win in PPFL

The 2018 Pakistan Premier Football League – Multan leg saw two matches at the Qilla Kohna Qasim Bagh Stadium last night, 28 September. All four newly promoted departments, who won a special play-off round earlier this month instead of going through the usual B-Division PFF League route as part of PFF’s expansion of the top division, took part.

Potential PPFL title challengers Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) – with numerous Pakistan internationals in their line-up, took on Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA), whilst Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Ltd (SNGPL) took on Ashraf Sugar Mills.

SSGC wasted numerous chances against PCAA throughout the 90 minutes as the game finished 0-0. Pakistan captain Saddam Hussain, who previously had played for KRL in last PPFL season of 2014-15 before club stints in Bahrain and Northern Cyprus, is now a member of SSGC alongside fellow international striker Saadullah, midfielder Bilawal ur Rehman (who earned a yellow card in the game), fullback Ahsanullah Khan, as well as goalkeeper Ahsan Ullah and former Afghan FC Chaman star Jadeed Khan Pathan.

Later that night, SNGPL eased past Ashraf Sugar Mills 2-0 with first half goals from Shahzeb Masood and Muhammad Shoaib. The Bahawalpur-based Ashraf Sugar Mills will likely struggle in this PPFL season as among the weakest departments this season. SNGPL, however, would look to be tough competitors this season having boosted their ranks with a number of signings before the league began.

Tonight, 29 September, PAF face WAPDA at 8 PM while K-Electric take on Afghan FC Chaman at 1015 PM.
