KARACHI: Karachi United were off to an impressive start when they defeated Asia Ghee Mills 2-0 thanks to a second half double from Asif on the second day of the First Naya Nazimabad Quaid-e-Azam Departmental Football Tournament here at the KMC Stadium on Monday.

Meanwhile, KMC defeated Pak PWD also 2-0 in another hotly-contested battle which was witnessed by a sizable crowd.

In the Group C opener, KU, who have a professional set-up and have played in Pakistan’s second-tier football, showed their class against weaker Asia Ghee Mills from Bahawalpur.

After a barren first half, Asif struck the double in 54th and 62nd minutes to bring in a solid win for his side. Karachi Port Trust (KPT) and Ashraf Sugar Mills are the other sides of the group.

In a Group B outing, KMC overpowered Pak PWD with an enviable ease thanks to one goal each from Mubashir and Aamir. Mubashir put KMC ahead in the 14th minute through field attempt. Aamir doubled the lead in the 57th minute when he scored from the spot.

On Tuesday (today), Sindh Police take on Pak Steel and KPT face Ashraf Sugar Mills, owned by former chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Zaka Ashraf.
