FPDC Exclusive: Pakistan International Hajra Khan signs for Maldives champions SHR WFC

Pakistan Women’s Team star Hajra Khan has accepted an offer to play for Maldives Women’s Championship winners Sunrise Hotels & Resorts Football Club to play for them in their upcoming season.
Hajra, who has been consistently labeled as the best women’s player in Pakistan, was on the radar of two Maldives-based sides, but eventually ended up signing for SHR WFC, who won the League last time.
“It is a feeling unlike any other. Two Maldivian clubs wanted me to play for them at the Maldivian National Football Championship but SHR WFC made the final call,” Hajra was quoted as saying in an exclusive interview with FootballPakistan.com.
“To be the first female from Pakistan to have been offered such an opportunity is something to be really proud of. SHR WFC of Maldives has also called a couple of players from SriLanka that I know quite well. I’m sure we’ll make a good team which will hopefully result in a positive outcome,” she added.
“I believe it’s a sign of progression for women’s football in Pakistan however stagnant it may be.”
FootballPakistan.com Director Malik Riaz Hai Naveed, who negotiated the transfer, was full of praise for the talented starlet and hoped that she would make the country proud in Maldives when the season kicks off.
“I am really proud that Hajra made the way and her talent got appreciated abroad. This is a great opportunity to represent pakistan abroad and I am sure that’s not her last stint abroad. Hajra is the most talented female footballer in Pakistan and we wanted to help Maldivian football too.”
The Maldives Women’s Championship will be held from 8th to 23rd June with Hajra under contract for two weeks and expected to pickup a paycheck of nearly $500 with a number of other benefits. However, she will remain with Balochistan United WFC and will take part in the National Women’s Championship when she returns from her stint abroad.
