Women football championship starts today [The News]

KARACHI: A total of eight women football teams would participate in the D C East Cup Girls Football Championship from Friday (today) at National Sports Training and Coaching Centre (NSTCC), the organisers told ‘The News’ on Thursday.

The winners would be awarded Rs100,000 and the runners-up would get Rs50,000, they said. The event is being held in connection with the International Women’s Day, observed on March 8.

Deputy Commissioner East will be the chief guest at the opening ceremony, while MNA Nafisa Shah will be the guest of honour. Leading teams of the city, including Universal Football Club, Karachi Women Football Club and SMB Fatima will participate in the tournament.

Meanwhile, it was learnt that IPC minister Riaz Hussain Pirzada, who will visit Karachi from March 8, will also be invited to the championship.

He might also visit the National Sports Training and Coaching Centre on the last day of the championship, the organisers said.
