Shoaib pledges security for AFC U-16 qualifiers [DAWN]

KARACHI, Aug 23: Fool-proof security will be provided to foreign teams for the Asian Football Federation (AFC) Under-16 Qualifiers schedule to be held here at Peoples Stadium, Lyari from Sept 27 to Oct 5.

“Top class security will be our top priority during the event,” Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui told a meeting of officials on Friday.

He said all the agencies and organizing bodies will be coordinating in successful, smooth and incident-free staging of the 4-nation competition.

Besides hosts Pakistan, teams from Iran, Sri Lanka and the UAE will be taking part in the 10-day event.

Shoaib said it is a great honour that AFC has allocated this event to Karachi and assured Pakistan and Sindh Football Federations that the Karachi administration will be making elaborate security arrangements for this international event to be held in a befitting manner.

Shoaib further said both Sindh Governor and Sindh Chief Minister are taking keen interest in the matter and are confident of smooth and safe organisation of the championship.

He said the competition will provide good entertainment for people of Karachi and specially to Lyariites who are great followers of game and have produced dozens of footballers of international calibre.

The meeting was also attended by President SFA Khadim Ali Shah, ADC Fayyaz Solangi and officials of KMC, DMC and other organisations.—APP
