According to reports, Pakistan Television and its Sports Division, PTV Sports, have bought the rights for the upcoming SAFF Cup from World Sports Group.

After showcasing their interest in Football by broadcasting the English Premier League last season, PTV Sports has taken a step in the right direction once more, setting precedent in a country where cricket is the sure-shot favourite amongst media outlets.

Initially, World Sports Group, who organize the SAFF Cup, were keen on letting ESPN broadcast all the matches, but with regional television stations also showing interest, WSG invited bids and PTV Sports were also in the loop.

According to WSG’s Media Sales Manager Kapil Chhetri, the deal is all but done.

“PTV Sports has purchased the rights and the deal is almost complete,” said the official.

The agreement marks a historic day for Pakistani football, as PTV Sports will broadcast all the matches live and will finally help raise the Pakistan’s team profile.
