Blatter expresses shock at Karachi deaths [FIFA]

Following a bomb that killed young football fans outside a Karachi football stadium FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter has written to Pakistan Football Federation to express his sadness at the event.

The group of children and teenagers were killed, with many others injured, when the bomb exploded in the Lyari area of Karachi as they were playing football in the street following a game early in the morning of Wednesday 7 August.

President Blatter conveyed his sorrow at hearing of the incident in a letter to PFF President Makhdoom Syed Saleh Hayat. “I would like to say how deeply shocked I was to hear of the tragic assault on our sport through a bomb attack in Karachi,” he said.”

“Both personally and on behalf of the FIFA family, I wish to extend our deepest condolences to the Pakistani football community and especially to the families of the victims.

“I hope that in some way, our words of support may help bring a little bit of peace and solace in this time of sadness.”
