KRL drawn with Dordoi in President’s Cup

KARACHI: National champions Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) were on Tuesday placed with former two-times champions Dordoi Dynamo of Kyrgyzstan in Group B as the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) unveiled draws for the AFC President’s Cup in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday.

Philippines will host the Group B slots that also carry debutants and hosts Global FC and Bhutan’s Yeedzin FC.

All the matches of the group stage will be held in the second week of May and the finals in September 2013. The two leading teams from each group will qualify for the finals.

KRL coach Tariq Lutfi said that their round was not that difficult. “I have not seen the team from Philippines and so will try to get details about their strengths. We have already played twice with Dordoi and if our players played with commitment we could hold them,” Tariq Lutfi told ‘The News’.

“Bhutan’s outfit are also good, but we are confident that we will easily qualify for the main round,” said Lutfi. He said that the camp would start from March 30 in Rawalpindi. He said that Rizwan Asif’s return to the team would give them a boost.

“I will try to focus on our key striker Kaleemullah who has developed an attitude problem following his brilliant performances in the Premier League. We hope we could correct him through counselling,” said Lutfi, also a former Pakistan coach.

“We have also recruited four new players. Two of them, Saeed Ahmad and Mohammad Hameed, are with the national team in Bishkek,” revealed Lutfi. This is the third time that KRL will be featuring in the AFC President Cup.
