KUSC, NBP Cup round-up

The 8th Karachi United Schools Football Championship 2013 saw completion of its group stage matches on 28 January 2013 at KMC Stadium.

Lyceum School beat Beaconhouse Gulshan 3-0 with goals from Bilal Aslam, Minhas Sabir, and Rehan Alauddin to reach the pre-quarterfinals stage.

COMMECS College then beat St Michael School 3-0 to also reach the next round with goals from Rayan Hussain, Talha Anwar, and Bilal Raza. Commecs topped their group. NCR Beat TCF School 2-0 with goals from Basim Malik and Fahad Iqbal.

British Overseas School beat CAS 4-2 in a thriller. Hamza Bukhari, Ibrahim, Umar Farooq, Zahid Qureshi scored for BOS while Zaid Yahya and Ali Ahmed responded for CAS.

As per KUSC organising secretary, a total of 48 games were held in group stage for KUSC 2013 at both KMC Stadium and Aga Khan Gymkhana Ground.

Group A saw Nixor College and Generation School get top 2 spots. Group B with City School PAF and Cordoba School, Group C with Aga Khan HSS and Army Public School, Group D with St Patrick’s High School and Bayview College, Group E with Southshore School and City School Gulshan, Group F with COMMECS College and Bahria College, Group G with Karachi Grammar School and NCR, while Group H saw Lyceum School and Beaconhouse Gulshan qualify for Round of 16 ties.

The pre-quarterfinal shall be played on 2-3 February at both venues simultaneously.

ALL PAKISTAN NATIONAL BANK FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT

Young Azizabad FC (Distt. Central) fought hard to beat Clifton Shaheen (District South) 2-1 in the All Pakistan National Bank Football Tournament  at Colony Sports Stadium Malir.

Yasir Shah had given Young Azizabad FC the lead in the 5th minute and Mohammad Amir doubled the lead in the 13th minute. Young Azizabad 2-0 up at intervel.

Clifton Shaheen striker Sher Gul scored in the 58th minute and reduced the margin 1-2. Young Azizabad maintained their 2-1 lead at final whistle and moved into next round.

Referee Khalid Mumtaz Jimmy supervised the match while Siraj Talib and Shoukat assisted on the line while Zaheer Abbasi as Match Commissioner.

Fixture on 30.1.2013 – Sarhad Sports Malir vs Lasbella Students at 4:oo pm

Shahbaz Mohammedan (Malir) beat neighbours Malir National 4-3 after an intense game in the All-Pakistan National Bank Football Cup being held at Colony Sports Stadium in Malir, Karachi. Shahbaz Mohammedan qualified for the next round as a result of the hotly contested win.

Shahbaz Mohammedan raced to a 2-0 lead thanks to early goals from Saleem and Abid. Saeed struck to make it 2-1 before half time to bring Malir National back in the game. Saeed then equalised early in 2nd half to make it 2-2 but Yameen and Junaid struck to make it 4-2 for Shahbaz Mohammedan. Zubair struck for Malir National to make it 4-3 late in the game but Shahbaz Mohammedan held on for a tight win.

Referees with Khalid Mumtaz ‘Jimmy’ with Siraj Talib, Shaukat, 4th official Laeeq, and match commissioner M Zaheer Abbasi. On 30 January 2013, Sarhad Sports (Malir) face Lasbela Students at 4 pm.

In other events, the All-Karachi Sher Jan Baloch Memorial Football Tournament hosted by Hunter Sports FC (Malir) saw Gulistan Friends (Korangi) beat Young Shaheen FC (Landhi) on penalties 4-3 after a cagey 0-0 draw.

Gulistan Friends qualified for the next round as a result. The match was marred by some foul play by Young Shaheen’s Naseeb Gul who attached referee Naseer Umar at the end of the game and used abusive language.

On the directives of the match commissioner’s report, DFA Malir secretary Shahid Taj took immediate action and suspended Naseeb Gul for next 3 months from all football-related activities as well as imposing a Rs 3000 fine on the guilty player.
