KMC futsal event from February 20

KARACHI: The KMC sports, cultural and recreation department is gearing up to organise some big sports events in the city, including KMF futsal championship, an official of the department told ‘The News’.

It will also organise KMC fastest athlete of the city competition, KMC T20 inter-club championship and KMC island sports festival.

The futsal championship is likely to start from February 20.

It is for the first time that a futsal championship has been planned at the government level.

Futsal is a shorter version of football. FIFA has made it compulsory for all football playing nations to have futsal activities.

The senior director of the department Reehan Khan said that futsal is fast gaining popularity among the youth of the city. Therefore, KMC decided to organise a futsal event to give opportunities to the youth of the city to polish their skills.

Young boys have been organising futsal tournaments in various parts of the city for the past several years without any support from the government. The KMC sports department will disclose the details of the championship on Thursday (today).

KARACHI: The KMC Cup Day and Night Futsal Tournament would be held at Kashmir Road Sports Complex from February 20 to 27, carrying cash awards of Rs50,000 for the winners and Rs25,000 for the runners-up.

Senior director KMC sports, culture and recreation department Rehan Khan announced this here on Thursday.

Addressing a press conference at Kashmir Road Sports Complex, Rehan said it is the first time that a futsal tournament is being organised under the government patronage.

He said that 32 famous club teams of the city would compete on a special futsal arena developed at the Kashmir Road Sports Complex. Each futsal match will last 40 minutes, with two halves.

Rehan said that Rs10,000 would be awarded to player of the tournament, Rs5000 each to the top scorer of the tournament and man of the final.

He further said chief officer of KMC Matanat Ali Khan would be the chief guest of the opening ceremony and KMC administrator Muhammad Hussain Syed would be the chief guest of the concluding ceremony.
