KARACHI: Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) produced their 14th victory of the season when they whipped Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) 4-0 in a match of the 9th Pakistan Premier Football League here at the KPT Stadium on Friday.
Abdul Salaam scored a brace while he was also joined on the score-sheet by Abdul Rehman and Mohammad Rasool.
KESC, who had faced a shocking 0-1 defeat at the hands of KPT in their previous game, were given tough time by ZTBL in the first goalless half. However, soon after the breather KESC drew the first blood when Abdul Rehman, a former KPT player, capitalised on a fine cross from midfielder Mohammad Riaz in the 46th minute. After breaking the deadlock KESC kept the pressure and doubled their lead when Abdul Salam landed a beautiful goal in the 64th minute.
Two minutes later, ZTBL could have reduced the deficit but KESC defender Aurangzeb Baba did a fine job in the deep to avert the rally. KESC, who had their key keeper Jehangir Khan back in the side after missing the previous match due to double booking, added to the misery of the visitors through a fine field effort from Chitral-born Mohammad Rasool in the 73rd minute. Two minutes later Abdul Salam scored his second goal to complete the rout.
“We were given tough time by the rivals as they had young players in their side. But when we started scoring goals in the second half they came under pressure,” KESC coach Hasan Baloch said.
“You know, the loss against KPT in the previous game has damaged our position. Our team should be consistent otherwise it will become difficult to achieve any milestone,” he added.
The victory helped KESC inflate their tally to 48 from 23 meetings while ZTBL have 20 points from 23 appearances.
