NBP Peace Cup: Malir stuns Turbat 4-2 to reach quarters

The All-Pakistan National Bank Peace Football Cup completed its group stage games yesterday, 10 December 2012, at Shaheed Abdur Rehman Baloch Stadium in Gabol Park, Lyari, Karachi.

Group D saw DFA Malir bounce back from a shock defeat at hands of DFA Panjgur to edge DFA Turbat 4-2 and qualify for quarter-finals round on better goal difference alongside Panjgur. Abdul Haleem scored twice, while Abdul Jabbar and Shehzad scored once each for Malir. Turbat could reply only with goals from Najeeb Sattar and Shabbir Jan.

The chief guest for the game was Allah Bakhsh, principal of Blessing Star School, and he met both teams at half-time.

In Group B, DFA Khuzdar got a 3rd place finish after beating Sindh Govt Press (SGP) 3-0 easily. Goals from M Siddique, M Ibrahim, and Fazal Muhammad granted Khuzdar a consolation victory to get 4 points from 3 games while SGP lost all 3 of their matches.

From Group A, Gwadar Port Authority and hosts DFA South qualified for quarter-finals. Group B saw Pak PWD and DFA West, Group C with DFA East and DFA Hyderabad, and Group D with DFA Malir and DFA Panjgur reach the quarter-final stage.

In 1st quarter-final, Gwadar Port Authority faces DFA West. 2nd quarter-final is between DFA South and Pak PWD, 3rd between DFA Malir and DFA East, and last quarter-final is DFA Panjgur and DFA Hyderabad.

As per match commissioner Yaqoob Baloch, a total of 57 goals have been scored in 21 matches so far in NBP Peace Cup. PPWD’s Gul Muhammad is current top scorer with 3 goals to his name. A total of 58 yellow cards and 3 double yellow cards have been shown in the tournament. Not a single goal has been scored from the penalty spot so far, and neither has an own goal occured.

The first goal of the NBP Peace Cup was scored by DFA East’s Muhammad Saqib against Sindh Govt Press in Group B on 1 Dec 2012, while DFA Khuzdar’s Muhammad Ibrahim scored the tournament’s 50th goal also against SGP on 11 Dec 2012.

Aslam Azad reached the quarter-finals of the All-Sindh Qazir Abdur Rasheed Bhatti Invitational Football Tournament in Nawabshah.

Aslam Azad beat tournament hosts Pak Sports FC in an all-Nawabshah clash at Municipal High School Ground 2-0. A goal in each half from Aslam and Shahrukh granted Aslam Azad a surprising victory.

Quarter-finals for the event will take place on 11-12 Dec, semi-finals on 13 Dec, and final on 14 Dec 2012.
