KARACHI: Holders Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) took another step towards their third straight crown when they outgunned Afghan FC 2-0 in the 9th Pakistan Premier Football League on Saturday, while Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) overwhelmed Punjab Medical College (PMC) Athletico Faisalabad 3-0.
At the Government High School Ground in Chaman, KRL overcame all the hurdles which the visitors normally face in Chaman, beating the hosts Afghan FC quite comfortably. After a tough goalless first half, international Mohammad Aadil put KRL ahead in the 60th minute before key striker Kaleem Ullah doubled their lead with a nice field effort in the 72nd minute.
The match commissioner mentioned in his score-sheet that Kamran scored the first goal for KRL, but an official of the winners said that Adil had scored the first goal.
“It was a good victory. We had no hunger for goals and I had told my boys just to keep ball possession and that paid dividends,” KRL coach Tariq Lutfi told ‘The News’ from Chaman.
“You know, it’s always tough to play here. There was no grass on the ground and the players also feel pressure here in front of a huge crowd,” said Lutfi.
The victory pushed KRL to 58 points at the top spot from 22 meetings, while Afghan FC have 29 points from 22 games.
Here at the Korangi Baloch Football Ground in Sharafi Goth, PIA did not face any trouble and tamed PMC Athletico with an enviable ease to stretch their tally to 27 from 24 appearances.
International striker Shakir Lashari scored a brace, hitting goals in the 12th and the 38th minutes. Zeeshan Ali joined him on the scoresheet in the 80th minute. The loss left Faisalabad’s PMC FC reeling at 20 points from 24 outings.
At the KPT Stadium, hosts KPT edged past Wohaib FC 2-0 to take their points to 27 from 24 meetings. Sarmad put KPT ahead in the 16th minute before striker Mohammad Bin Younis added to their tally in the 32nd minute. The defeat left Lahore’s Wohaib FC at eight points from 24 matches.
