Muslim FC up to 3rd after another win

KARACHI: Muslim FC joined Pakistan Air Force (PAF) on the third spot on points after beating Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) 2-0 in their match of the 9th Pakistan Premier Football League at the Government High School Ground in Chaman on Tuesday.

In front of a huge crowd, Mohammad Dawood put Muslim FC on the front foot through a short-range drive in the 13th minute.

Ten minutes later, they extended the lead when Zabih Ullah’s pile-driver from 18 yards went past the unmoved keeper.

At half time, Muslim FC were leading 2-0. After the breather tight game was witnessed with PIA making concerted efforts to reduce the deficit, but they failed to capitalise on the opportunities that came their way.

“The team played excellent football today,” Muslim FC coach Mohammad Dawood told ‘The News’ from Chaman.

“Zabeeh Ullah hit a splendid goal from distance which was a treat to watch. We will now take a few days’ rest and will resume our campaign here after Ashura,” added the coach.

Meanwhile, PIA coach Mohammad Shamim Khan blamed biased refereeing for Muslim FC’s win. Another official said that the visitors receive threats from the spectators in Chaman and the footballers fear for their safety on the field which keeps them from performing well against Muslim FC.

Muslim FC have been quite impressive so far in the league and have defeated some strong teams such as KESC and National Bank. They have mostly young players with decent height.

Defender Mohammad Hameed and striker Saeed Ahmed have made a cut for the national team’s tour of Singapore.

Midfielder Mohammad Dawood from Muslim FC was declared the best player of the game for doing a great job in feeding his frontline.

The victory propelled Muslim FC to join PAF at the third place as both have 40 points, but the latter have an edge over the former on goal and match difference.

KRL with 46 points are leading the table with Army trailing at the second place with 43 points to their credit. The loss left PIA reeling at 17 points from 17 meetings.

Today (Wednesday) will be the rest day.
