KARACHI: Former champions Army were held to a 1-1 draw by PMC Athletico in their match of the 9th Pakistan Premier Football League held at the PMC Ground in Faisalabad on Tuesday.
PMC skipper Haroon Yousuf struck on penalty in the injury time to bring the parity. Army had got onto the scoresheet through Rehman Ali in the 25th minute.
Sources said that refereeing was not up to the mark and PMC were given a wrong penalty in the dying moments thanks to which the hosts levelled the game.
Sources said that PMC captain Haroon Yousuf had pressurised the referee by always speaking to him harshly during the whole game.
Army coach Jaffar Khan said that his team had an upper hand throughout but the penalty in the end shattered their hopes of winning the game. “I think we were really on top but we were harmed by the penalty in the end,” Jaffar told ‘The News’.
The single point helped Army inflate their tally to 12 from eight games while PMC Athletico moved to five points from six appearances. After a day’s rest the event will resume on Thursday (tomorrow).
