Muslim FC stun HBL, Navy get big win

KARACHI: Chaman’s Muslim FC emerged as a real threat, even to some better departmental teams as they notched a 1-0 victory against Habib Bank Limited (HBL) while Navy whipped Nushki’s Baloch FC 4-0 in matches of the 9th Pakistan Premier Football League here on Saturday.

At the Peoples Sports Complex, Zabeehullah struck the lone goal in the 51st minute to guide Muslim FC to a fine victory against HBL who have been in poor form in the marathon so far.

This was the second consecutive win by Muslim FC against a departmental side as they had outgunned Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) 1-0 at the latter’s backyard in the mid-week.

Muslim FC coach Mohammad Dawood was happy with his team’s brilliant showing so far in the league.

“It’s really encouraging when a club wins against a departmental team,” Dawood told The News after the match.

“For every game against a departmental team we have to make solid planning. Mostly we have immature players in the side but you know Chaman’s players play like Brazillian footballers as they have natural dribbling and fine passing power and their running with the ball is also inspirational,” added Dawood.

“If we keep on playing like this, we have a good chance to finish at an impressive position in the end,” the coach said. The win took Muslim FC to 12 points from seven games.

Meanwhile, HBL coach Yousuf Khan said that his players played much better football than their previous outings.

“I am really satisfied as it could have been our day had we not made a blunder in the defence when we conceded the goal. Although we lost but I am happy that all our players played extremely well for the first time in the season,” Yousuf said.

“We also missed a few open net chances and that went against us in the end,” said Yousuf.

HBL are struggling at three points from seven meetings.

Navy recoded a big win against Baloch FC Nushki at the KPT Stadium with the experienced forward Asif Bakhsh scoring a brace with goals in the fourth and 71st minute. He was also joined on the scoresheet by Sajjad Ahmad and Abdul Haq who landed one goal apiece in the 16th and 35th minute respectively as at half time Navy were leading 3-0.

Baloch FC completely failed to show any sting against a better side. Navy, with their third triumph, moved to 12 points from nine games.

At the Jinnah Stadium in Islamabad, Shahid Zameer hit the lone goal in the 35th minute to guide former champions Army to a 1-0 victory over fighting Pakistan Air Force (PAF).
