KESC 3-0 Muslim FC Chaman, KRL held by ZTBL

KARACHI: Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) continued their top form and whipped Chaman’s Muslim FC 3-0, while Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) defeated Nushki’s Baloch FC 1-0 in the 9th Pakistan Premier Football League here on Tuesday 18 Sept 2012.

At the KPT Stadium, KESC survived early scares to overwhelm the young side of Muslim FC and take their points to 14 from six matches, after four wins and two draws.

KESC were put ahead by Mohammad Moosa with a 10th minute field goal. After going down, Muslim FC created a few good movements and could have struck thrice, but their frontline failed to capitalise on the opportunities. “Muslim FC got chances due to mistakes from our defenders and even our goalkeeper was beaten, but luckily for us the opponents did not score,” KESC manager Hasan Baloch told ‘The News’. “The rivals were playing away for the first time and were very excited and it is good for us that we beat them,” added Hasan.

After the breather, KESC brought discipline in their ranks and doubled their lead through midfielder Mohammad Riaz in the 61st minute.

In the extra time, KESC were awarded a penalty after Muslim FC’s Hayatullah fouled in the area. Skipper Mohammad Essa scored from the spot to seal a convincing triumph for the hosts.

This was the first loss for the visitors who now have six points from five games.

At the Korangi Baloch Football Ground in Sharafi Goth, PIA pulled off their second win of the season, beating Baloch FC with Ali Adeem Shehzad scoring the lone goal in the 53rd minute.

“Yes, we are still struggling as three of our top players, Shakir Lashari, skipper Nasrullah and Zeeshan Ali, were injured and did not play in today’s clash,” PIA coach Shamim Khan said.

“Fitness of the players is a real problem. I hope that in a few days the trio will be back in the side. We are taking extra care as we have a very tough round ahead in Punjab,” added Shamim, a former international footballer.

The loss left Baloch FC Nushki trailing at five points from four appearances.

The newly promoted Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) produced their best performance of the season when they surprised two-time defending champions KRL with a 1-1 draw at the KRL Stadium in Rawalpindi.

Iftikhar Ahmad put ZTBL 1-0 ahead on the stroke of half time. Moments before the goal was scored, KRL were reduced to 10 men when their midfielder Mehmood Khan was sent off for breaching the discipline.

Soon after the breather, Saadullah brought parity for the hosts with a fine field effort.

The draw took KRL points to 14 from six games but they have a lower goal-average than the table leaders KESC.

ZTBL inflated their tally to two points from three matches.

“The opposition played well and we missed three open net chances after scoring the equaliser,” KRL coach Tariq Lutfi said.

The match between Wohaib Club and PMC Athletico Faisalabad at UMT Ground was postponed due to heavy rain in Lahore.

Today’s fixtures: HBL v Afghan FC (People’s Football Stadium, Karachi), NBP v Navy (KPT Football Stadium, Karachi).
