KESC stretch lead at the top in PPFL

KARACHI: Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) stretched their lead at the top spot when they defeated Chaman’s Afghan FC 2-0, while Pakistan Air Force (PAF) were held to a goalless draw by PMC Athletico in the 9th Pakistan Premier Football League held on Tuesday, 25 September 2012.

Here at the People’s Sports Complex, KESC kept their top form, notching sixth win from eight games and taking their points tally to 20. “We needed this win to stretch our lead,” KESC manager Hasan Baloch told ‘The News’. “All the boys played really well. We were missing the skipper Mohammad Essa who has left for his hometown, Chaman, and will leave for China on September 30 to attend a coaching course,” added Hasan.

KESC looked in control right from the start. Aurangzeb Baba opened the scoring for the hosts in the 20th minute before striker Abdul Rehman doubled their lead six minutes latter to take the game away from the visitors.

Afghan FC, who have been plagued by internal politics as they have dropped most of their senior players from the side, once again failed to offer laudable resistance against this season’s most impressive outfit.

In the end, a couple of Afghan FC players deliberately tried to charge the oppositions players.

KESC will play their last game in Karachi against Habib Bank on Thursday (tomorrow) after which they will leave for Punjab where they will meet PMC Athletico at the PMC Ground in Faisalabad on October 4.

The loss left Afghan FC reeling at four points from six appearances.

At the PMC Ground in Faisalabad, hosts MPC Athletico held Pakistan Air Force (PAF) to a goalless draw. The single point helped PMC inflate their points to three from four matches, while PAF moved to five points from six meetings.

PMC midfielder Fazal Mohammad was booked twice which means that he will not be able to play their team’s next game. PAF coach Mohammad Arshad blamed frontline for the poor result. “The frontline again failed to click. Our preparation is good and the players are also in good mood but they will have to capitalise on the chances if they want to improve their position,” said Arshad, a former international.

Today’s fixtures: NBP v Muslim FC (Aga Khan Ground, Karachi), KPT v Baloch FC (KPT Stadium, Karachi), WAPDA v Army (Railways Stadium, Lahore).
