NBP, KPT reach quarter-finals of RLCA Ramazan Cup

KARACHI: National Bank and Karachi Port Trust (KPT) defeated Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) and District Football Association (DFA) Central, respectively, to reach the quarter-finals of 1st RLCA All Pakistan Ramazan-ul-Mubarak Floodlight Football tournament at the RLCA Ground in Korangi on Friday night, 3 Aug 2012.

National Bank thrashed KWSB 4-0 while KPT defeated DFA Central 2-0. In the Group A game, National Bank, one of the stronger teams of the national circuit, faced no problems against KWSB who were inserted at the last moment after Pak PWD withdrew from the 12-team event being organised by Pakistan’s former cricket captain Rashid Latif.

International midfielder and skipper Abdul Aziz made a handy contribution to the bankers’ victory by hitting goals in the 16th and 40th minute. At half time NBP were leading with 2-0. In the second half, the star-studded National Bank went all out and added two more goals to their tally.

Adam Hameed put them 3-0 ahead in the 51st minute before emerging Sher Mohammad slotted home a spectacular one with a pile-driver in the 60th minute to complete the rout.

KPT, whose players have been regularised after a long wait, had to struggle against DFA Central before scoring a victory in the end. Following a goalless first half, international striker Mohammad bin Younis put KPT in front with a field effort in the 70th minute before Jamaluddin inflated their tally, capitalising a juicy pass from the left-out two minutes from full time.

Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) were scheduled to meet DFA West at the same venue on Saturday night at 11:00pm.
