Pakistan to feature in 2nd SAFF Women Cup

KARACHI: Pakistan women football team will feature in the SAFF Cup to be held in Sri Lanka in September, a top official of the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) said on Friday.

“Pakistan women team will take part in the SAFF Cup in Sri Lanka in September but due to Ramazan it looks difficult to prepare the team as they need at least month-long preparations,” PFF secretary Col Ahmad Yar Khan Lodhi told ‘The News’.

“As there are a few other Muslim states participating in the event so we have written to the South Asian Football Federation to hold the competitions in October and if our demand was considered then it would be good for all the teams to prepare well for the tournament,” Lodhi said.

Pakistan reached semifinals in SAFF Cup held in Dhaka last year.

The country’s most experienced coach Tariq Lutfi is expected to be given the charge of the women team again for the vital showdown.

Women football has grown gradually in Pakistan as several new clubs have started working and sponsors are also keen to support the sport.
