Azam Sports win Korangi Baloch Challenge Cup final

The 2nd Getz Pharma Korangi Baloch Football Challenge Cup 2012 came to a sensational end with this year’s impressive Azam Sports (Drigh Road) won their 9th football final this year after beating hosts Korangi Baloch in the final on penalties 3-2.

The Korangi Baloch Challenge Cup final, played on 16 July 2012 at the Korangi Baloch Football Stadium in Sharafi (Karachi), was an action-packed affair. Scores at half-time were 1-1 with Azam Sports taking the lead in 17th minute through their 18 year old star striker Naveed Ullah and Korangi Baloch equalising just 5 minutes later through Aqeel Ahmed.

In 2nd half, Korangi Baloch went 2-1 up in 57th minute when captain Abdul Hafeez scored but Azam Sports equalised through Furqan Ali to make it 2-2 in 67th minute. The score remained same at final whistle, forcing a penalty shoot-out.

Azam Sports captain and goalkeeper Shahid Islam was on fire as he saved 3 Korangi Baloch penalties to help his side win their 9th football final with a 3-2 shoot-out scoreline. Aqeel Khan, Kamran Boota, and Saleem Ullah all scored for Azam Sports from the spot while Waseem Ullah and Irfan Ullah missed their tries. Korangi Baloch only scored twice in shoot-out through Yasir Baloch and Abdul Hafeez but Azam Sports’ Shahid Islam saved from Aqeel Baloch, Jabbar Sr., and Korangi Baloch goalkeeper Rustam Baloch.

Azam Sports won a glittering winners’ trophy and a bumper prize of Rs 1 lakh from chief guest Khalid Mehmood, Managing Director of Getz Pharma, while Korangi Baloch got runners’ up prize and Rs 70,000.

The Getz Pharma M.D. also spoke on the occasion and reaffirmed his company’s desire to promote and sponsor sports and promised his full support to Korangi Baloch FC for future tournaments. Khalid Mehmood hoped that Getz Pharma will have a great relationship with football in the coming future.

Also present in the final were DFA Malir president Fateh Muhammad Baloch, secretary Shahid Taj, DFA East vice president Syed Usman Shah, secretary Ubaid Ullah, DFA South secretary Jan Muhammad Baloch, DFA Central vice-president M Shamim, KUFF administrator and media manager Riaz Ahmed, former Union Council Nazim Waja Nazimuddin, Korangi Baloch chairman Anwar Hussain, secretary Washdal Baloch, Nazar Muhammad, Comrade Gul Muhammad, captain Hameed, Ustad Haider Baloch, Usman Baloch, Rafique Baloch, Khalid Majeed et al.

Azam Sports and Korangi Baloch had reached the KB Challenge Cup final after beating Baloch Youth (Garden) and Al-Shabaz Korangi respectively in the semis.
