KARACHI: Sindh and Army joined Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Chaman’s Muslim FC in the semifinals after they beat their respective rivals National Youth and Punjab in the quarter-finals of the National Under-22 Football Championship held at the Dring Stadium in Bahawalpur on Thursday night, 3 May 2012.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were scheduled to face Army on Friday night, 4 May 2012, while Muslim FC were scheduled to meet Sindh.
In the third quarter-final, Army overwhelmed National Youth 2-0. Army played an attacking game as National Youth side failed to offer tough resistance. In the 11th minute Mohammad Jamil put the soldiers in front with a sparkling field effort. At half time, Army were leading 1-0. Soon after the start of the second half, Army created a fine opportunity and Mohammad Asghar made no mistake in netting a glorious goal to take the game away from National Youth, the Pakistan U16 team which won the SAFF Cup in Nepal last year.
In the fourth quarter-final at the same venue, Sindh played splendidly, crushing Punjab 3-0. Abdul Wahab scored a brace with strikes in the 27th and 89th minute, while Imran Hussain landed the third goal for the winners just before the final whistle.
