KARACHI: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Chaman’s Muslim FC blasted their way into the semifinals of the National Under-22 Football Championship after beating their rivals, PMC Athletico Faisalabad and Karachi Port Trust (KPT), respectively, in the quarter-finals at the Dring Stadium in Bahawalpur on Wednesday night.
In the first quarter-final, KPk defeated Faisalabad’s PMC Athletico 2-1 in extra time after the match had ended in a 1-1 stalemate in the regulation period.
Tariq put KPk in front in the 11th minute. However, following some good counterattacks, PMC Athletico were able to bring an equaliser through Waqas in the 40th minute. In the second half, both sides played aggressively but failed to take the lead till full time which stretched the game into the extra time.
In the last minute of the first half in the extended time Hameed scored the winner for KPk.
KPk’s Rasheed was shown yellow card in the second half of the extra time for time wasting while PMC’s Ahmad Raza and Arslaan were booked in the regulation period.
In the other quarter-final, Muslim FC edged out KPT 2-0 with Saeed Ahmad and Zabihullah scoring goals in the first half.
