Erchim, KRL match ends in draw

KARACHI: A flurry of missed chances denied Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) the chance to record the much-needed win against Mongolia’s Erchim FC who held them to a goalless draw in their opening Group A match of the AFC President’s Cup held at the Punjab Stadium in Lahore on Tuesday, 8 May 2012.

KRL, who needed a win to brighten their chances for qualifying for the final round, had good possession of the ball and created several open opportunities, but failed to produce any goal. “You see we missed so many chances. If the players cannot score goals from inside the penalty box then what can we do?” KRL manager Ayaz Butt said to ‘The News’.

“We had not only good ball possession but also dominated the game so much that the rivals looked frustrated. Our boys also showed good stamina,” he said. “Mongolia will play Chinese Taipei on May 10, and we will then analyse what we should do against Taiwan Power Company in our last match which will also decide our fate,” Butt said.

“But I am hopeful that we will make it to the next round,” Ayaz Butt hoped.

On Thursday, Erchim FC will lock horns with Chinese Taipei’s Taiwan Power Company and on Saturday KRL will face defending champions Taiwan Power Company in their last game. Two teams from the group will qualify for the final round. The matches are being telecast live on PTV Sports.
