KARACHI: Both Pakistan and Pakistan A suffered defeats at the hands of Afghanistan in their Format-II matches of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Under-14 Festival of Football at the Jinnah Stadium in Islamabad on Saturday, the penultimate day of the event.

In the first match, Afghanistan defeated Pakistan 1-0 with Omaid Haider scoring for the winners in the 31st minute.

In their second game, the Afghanis inflicted a 3-1 defeat on Pakistan A (Islamabad XI). Omaid Haider, Khalid and Nisar scored goals for them, while for the hosts Jamil netted the consolation goal.

Both Pakistan and Pakistan A held Tajikistan to goalless draws in their other matches they played.

Although, as per rules, there is no points system as the AFC treats it as a festival that gives exposure to the future lot of the participating countries, for the sake of the teams’ interest, Afghanistan are at the top of the table with 15 points, followed by Tajikistan and Pakistan with 12 points each, while Pakistan A have four points to their credit.

On Sunday (today), Afghanistan will take on Tajikistan and Pakistan will lock horns with Pakistan A. The matches will be followed by the closing ceremony.
