KARACHI: Punjab Medical College (PMC) Athletico Faisalabad crushed Balochistan 3-0 in their Group A opener of the National Under-22 Football Championship which commenced at the Dring Road at Bahawalpur on Thursday.
Mujahid Ali struck twice in the 14th and the 50th minute while Naveed Mumtaz scored the third goal for the winners in the 42nd minute.
The other game of the day saw Muslim FC Chaman edge past Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 2-1. A brace from Muhammad Hanif (64′ and 85′) either side of Rashid Ahmed’s 84th minute strike saw Muslim FC get a win.
In the event which will conclude on May 6, 12 teams, bracketed in four different groups, are showing their worth.
Group A: Balochistan, Karachi Port Trust (KPT), PMC Athletico.
Group B: Sindh, National youth team, Nushki’s Baloch FC.
Group C: Punjab, Army, Wohaib FC.
Group D: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, DFA Bahawalpur and Chaman’s Muslim FC.
Two teams from each pool will move into the quarter-finals which will be held from May 2-3 and the semifinals will be conducted on May 5 followed by the final on May 6.
