10TH AKU INTER-UNIVERSITY FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT 2012
Karachi: The final of the 10th Aga Khan University (AKU) Inter-University Football Tournament was played yesterday at the AKU Football Ground. AKU Team clinched the Football Trophy defeating IoBM Team by 4 – 0 goals.
The Chief Guest Mr. Louis R. Ariano, Registrar, Aga Khan University & Guest of Honor Mr. Ahmed Ali Wasti, Former International Player in presence of Riaz Akbar Contractor, Chief Organizer and Manager AKU Sports Centre, Hanif M. Shariff, Sr. Manager Administrative Services, AKU, Amin Lakhani, Manager Students Campus Life, AKU, distributed the prizes among the players.
The AKU Captain Hassan Javed received the Winning Trophy while IoBM Skipper Ali Ahmed received the Runner’s-up Trophy. The 3rd position trophy was received by Sufiyan Ahmed, Captain of PNEC Football Team who earlier defeated IBA by 1-0 goal.
Rehan Munir of AKU was given the Best Player of the Tournament award (10 Goals). Special Consolation Prizes were awarded to Waleed Kidwai of IoBM, Omair Saleem of AKU, Sohaib Aziz of PNEC and Zain Maniya of IBA for demonstrating excellent skills in the Football Tournament. Mr. Louis R. Ariano paid tributes to the efforts of AKU Sports Centre Organizers for organizing such healthy activities especially for the youths and congratulated both the teams on their success.
He emphasized to the Organizers that such Tournaments should be arranged on regular basis for the promotion of Football amongst the youth. Riaz Akbar Contractor, Chief Organizer and Manager AKU Sports Centre thanked the guests, the participating teams, print and electronic media and the technical officials for all the support in organizing the successful tournament.
