Usmanabad Union dumped a strong FC Rovers (Malir Cantt) side from the Hamara Karachi 7-a-side Football Festival 2012 on penalties, while Baloch Union (DFA West) beat Aga Khan Gymkhana FC (Garden West) 2-1 here at the National Soccer Academy Ground in Paposh, Karachi yesterday 22 March 2012.
Usmanabad Union had to fight to hold FC Rovers 2-2 in regular time before prevailing on penalties 3-1. Usmanabad Union took the lead through Ali Murad (12′) before Rovers responded through Usama Noor (19′) and Irfan Junejo (20′) to make it 2-1. Usmanabad managed to equalise in dying seconds through another Ali Murad strike to force the shoot-out where Rovers were left begging.
Baloch Union had to thank Arif Faiz and Muhammad Sr. for their goals as they raced to a 2-0 lead in first 17 minutes. Aga Khan Gymkhana responded with a goal from Hussain Ahmed but Baloch Union held on for a place in Last-8 stage. Baloch Union’s Muhammad Sr. will be forced to sit out the next game due to a second yellow card booking in the tournament.
