KRL beat Karachi United in practice game

National football champions Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) from Rawalpindi beat a youthful Karachi United FC 5-0 in a practice match yesterday, 10 March 2012, at KMC Stadium in Karachi.

The absence of young KUFC stars Rehan Munir and Kareem Kerai saw KRL prove to be too strong in the game.

The match was arranged for KRL’s preparation for the coming KPT National Football Challenge Cup 2012 to be held from 11 March 2012 onwards in Karachi at KPT Sports Complex, West Wharf Road in Kharadar, Karachi.

KRL manager Ayaz Butt and head coach Tariq Lutfi praised Karachi United’s youth development and football promotion across Karachi and hoped that the KUFC stars will one day feature for the Pakistan national team in the near future.

Hamara Karachi 7-side Football Festival to begin from 14 March

The Hamara Karachi 7-side Football Festival, organised on special advice from Karachi District Central administrator Nazir Lakhani, begins for 14-23 March 2012 at National Soccer Academy Ground in Paposh, Karachi.

Usmanabad Union and Gulshan Soccer will play opening game. The tournament will be inaugurated by Sindh provincial minister for Sports, Dr Muhammad Ali Shah. Organising secretary Arshad Jamal said that the Hamara Karachi 7-side features 16 teams playing a knock-out format with 2 games being played each day.

The tournament winners will pocket Rs 5000, and runners up Rs 3000 in cash prizes along with trophies. The tournament entry for interested teams was made free, with no entrance fee being charged by the organisers.
