The 9th UBL Omni Karachi United Football League 2011-12 Super League phase saw Al-Shabaz (Korangi) edge past FC Rovers (Malir Cantt) yesterday, 15 March 2012, at the Korangi Baloch Stadium in Sharafi, Karachi.
Both sides missed chances in opening exchanges of the game. However, Al-Shabaz took the lead in 24th minute when Muhammad Noor’s shot deflected off Rovers’ defender Hamza Shahid and into the net. Al-Shabaz then went 2-0 up when veteran striker Abdur Rehman scored from a Farid Alam cross. Rovers managed to make it 2-1 when Arif Shehzad scored from Hasnat’s cross, but Al-Shabaz held on for a vital win at the end.
The game was attended by renowned Karachi football organiser and Young Azad FC (Korangi) chief M Ramzan Arif “Pir Jee” who met both teams at half-time.
The win helped Al-Shabaz get their first 3 points in the KUFL Super League phase following a 0-1 loss to Kalri Star (Lyari). Rovers remain on 4 points from 3 games. Referees were Aziz Pasha, Mehboob Rehman, Yousaf Mansoori, and match commissioner H.M.Hanif.
