Korangi Baloch enter KUFL next stage with win

The 9th UBL Omni Karachi United Football League 2011-12 saw Korangi Baloch (Sharafi) overcome favourites Baloch Mujahid (Ibrahim Hyderi) 2-1 in a thriller at Jam Stadium in Malir (Karachi) to qualify for the ‘Super League’ round.

Both sides played aggressive football and both went down to 10 men after sending offs by the referee. Baloch Mujahid’s Muhammad Hanif and Korangi Baloch goalkeeper Rustam Baloch were sent off by referee Aziz Pasha for red card offences, while 4 K.B and 1 B.M players were booked with yellow cards. M Shamim, Secretary of DFRA Central, met both teams at half time.

Abdul Hafeez gave Korangi Baloch the 1-0 lead from an Aqeel Ahmed pass in 35th minute. Baloch Mujahid came close to scoring twice but Korangi Baloch goalkeeper Rustam Baloch kept out M Hanif (32′), Salal Raza (37′), and Umar Bakhsh (40′) in quick succession. The 2nd half saw tempers flaring as Korangi Baloch’s Abdul Jabbar Sr., M Wasim, M Yasir, Amjad Anjum, and Baloch Mujahid’s M Hanif and Salal Raza got booked with yellow cards. Korangi Baloch went 2-0 in 57th minute when young Abdul Jabbar Jr. scored from a Abdul Hafeez pass.

Naveed Raza responded for Baloch Mujahid with a 64th minute penalty after M Hanif was fouled in the box. But a minute later, Hanif was sent-off for a second yellow card before Korangi Baloch goalie Rustam got sent off for a serious foul on Naveed Raza as both teams went down to 10 men. Rustam lost his cool and confronted the referee for the decision, and had to be separated by match committee members to re-start the game. Korangi Baloch held on for an ill-tempered 2-1 win. Referees were Aziz Pasha, Ahmed Mian, Qari Tahir, Arif Hameed, and Abdul Karim.

The result left Korangi Baloch on 19 points as they joined fellow Group B sides Karachi United (20 pts) and Al-Shabaz Korangi (18 pts) into the KUFL Super League phase. Baloch Mujahid (15 pts) face fellow Group B side Irfan Memorial (17 pts) in next game on Friday, 24 Feb 2012, to decide the final Super League place, with Baloch Mujahid needing nothing less than a win while Irfan Memorial only need a draw to progress.
