Burma & Baloch Mohdn 0-0 in Engro League; Athar Memorial final

The 2012 All-Karachi Engro Vopak Football League, organised by FC Rovers (Malir Cantt) at Jam Stadium Malir (Karachi), saw the Group A clash between Baloch Mohammadan (Malir) and Burma Mohammadan (Korangi) finish goal-less as both sides shared a point each. Both teams are now on 7 points each with Baloch Mohammadan having played 3 games, while Burma Mohammadan have 4 games under their belts.

Despite an action packed 90 minutes, both sides failed to avail their chances to break the deadlock in the 0-0 draw played on 21 Feb 2012. Both goalkeepers showed great athleticism and awareness to deny opposing strikers from scoring. Burma Mohammadan’s Abdur Rahim failed to beat Baloch Mohammadan goalie Abdul Latif in a one-on-one situation in 24th minute. Baloch Mohammadan’s Ahmed Lal came close in 32nd minute as his shot hit the post, before Muhammad Ishaq failed to hit the target in 42nd minute.

The 2nd half saw both sides coming close but failing to score. Ahmed Lal again came close in 61st minute only for Burma Mohammadan goalie Abdul Ghani denying him. M Idris then came close in 72nd minute but Baloch Mohammadan goalie Abdul Latif saved well as it ended 0-0 at the end. Referees were Khalid Mumtaz ‘Jimmy’, M Umar, Nabi Bakhsh, and match commissioner Abdul Karim.

On Thursday, 23 Feb 2012, Janbaz Spots (Sultanabad) face Dilbod Mohammadan (Malir).

The All-Karachi Baba-e-Football Athar Hussain Memorial Football Tournament, hosted by Karachi Sports FC (Gulbahar) at Abdullah Haroon Stadium (Khajji Ground), saw Janbas Sports (Sultanabad) beat Young Khadbasti (Lyari) 3-0 in the final to win the tournament yesterday, 21 Feb 2012.

Janbaz Sports dominated the final as they went 1-0 up thanks to Sanaullah by half-time. During the break, both finalist teams were introduced to chief guest Sheikh Athar by tournament organising secretary Mutahir Hussain. Also present were senior officials from DFA Central and DFA South. In 2nd half, Janbaz continued their dominance as further goals from Rafiq Khan (54′) and M Imran (63′) helped them win the championship at the end. Referees were Akhtar Ali, Irshad Baig, M Farooq.

Sheikh Athar then presented winners trophy to Janbaz Sports as well as distributed prizes to the finalist players and officials. He also praised the tournament organisers for holding a successful tournament.
