Baloch Mujahid shock Karachi United in KUFL

Venue hosts Baloch Mujahid FC (Ibrahim Hyderi) gave organisers Karachi United FC a shock 3-2 loss in the 9th UBL Omni Karachi United Football League 2011-12 at the Baloch Mujahid Stadium. This came after Baloch Mujahid had suffered two back-to-back defeats prior to this game, while KUFC had remained unbeaten so far.

In front of a large boisterous crowd, Baloch Mujahid took an early lead when Umer Bakhsh scored from a Muhammad Hanif’s left wing cross after just 9 minutes on the clock. However, Karachi United responded when Taha Rehman was fouled in the box by BM goalkeeper Shehzad Ali in 28th minute, forcing referee Naseer Umar to award a penalty to KUFC. Athar Qadri stepped up and scored from the spot to make it 1-1.

Baloch Mujahid then again took the lead when Muhammad Hanif’s pass found the feet of Muhammad Nadeem, who scored past KUFC goalie Bilal Mehdi in 41st minute as Baloch Mujahid led 2-1 at half time. Karachi United equalised again in 51st minute when substitute Shazer Razi set up striker Benedict Plant to make it 2-2 for KUFC.

But Benedict Plant turned from hero to villain in final minutes of the game when he was sent off on a second yellow card for a foul on Muhammad Nawaz in 88th minute. The resulting free-kick proved to be decisive for Baloch Mujahid as Muhammad Hanif’s set-piece found Umar Bakhsh, who in turn scored his second of the game to win the tie for his side 3-2 at the end. Referees were Naseer Umar, Shaukat Ali, Babar Khan, and match commissioner Abdul Karim.

The result left Baloch Mujahid on 9 points from 5 games, while Karachi United were on 17 points from 8 games in Group ‘B’.
