Struggling defending champions WAPDA finally returned to winning ways in the 8th Pakistan Premier Football League 2011 as they over-came the impressive Afghan FC Chaman side 2-1 at Railways Stadium, Garhi Shahue (Lahore) yesterday 14 November 2011.
After playing some of their initial home matches in Faisalabad, WAPDA’s return to its old hunting ground proved a good omen as they raced to a 2-0 lead at half-time thanks to goals Muhammad Afzal (16′) and returning captain Arif Mehmood (29′). Afghan FC managed a goal in 2nd half through Haneef Ullah (76′) but failed to stop WAPDA from getting all 3 points from the match.
Meanwhile in Faisalabad, home side PMC Club Athletico fought hard to beat Pakistan Police 2-0 at the University of Agriculture Ground. Goals from Muhammad Rashid (27′) and ageing captain Haroon Yousaf’s 20 yard freekick (61′) helped PMC Athletico record a precious win as their quest to survive relegation continued with another 3 points.
At Rawalpindi’s Municipal Stadium, KRL were held 0-0 by a plucky Muslim FC Chaman as both teams shared 1 point each. In other game, Pakistan Army continued its resurgence as they came from behind beat Baloch FC Nushki 3-1. Habib Ullah gave Baloch club a 1-0 lead before half-time with a 30th minute goal. Army then fought hard to overcome the deficit as goals from Sharjeel Vicky (64′), Muhammad Shabbir (83′) and Mubashir Hussain (90+2′) helped them win 3-1 at the end.
