The 8th PFF League 2011-12 began yesterday, 23 Nov 2011, with 2 games yesterday in the department phase held at Korangi Baloch Stadium in Sharafi, Karachi. Former Pakistan Premier League participants Sui Southern Gas Co. (SSGC) beat Gwadar Port Authority (GPA) 5-2, while Pakistan Steel beat Pakistan Public Works Department (PPWD) 1-0 in other game.
SSGC dominated GPA from the start as two goals from Shahzad and one from Asim Fayaz helped them race to a 3-0 lead at half time. Sabir Khan then made it 4-0, before GPA struck twice in quick succession Shah Nawaz and Asim Sarwar to make it 4-2. But SSGC made it 5-2 in final minutes of the game thanks to Shah Nawaz’s goal as they earned 3 points in their first game.
Pak Steel managed to edge past PPWD 1-0 thanks to a lone goal by striker Abdul Wahab just before half time to begin their PFF League campaign on a high with 3 points.
Like previous editions, the PFF League features a separate department phase and club phase where the top side from each phase wins promotion to next year’s PPL season.
