Maldives 2 – 1 Seychelles: Fazeel rescues Maldives

Male’, MALDIVES – Maldives came from a goal down to beat Seychelles 2-1 in their second friendly game played tonight. Maldives started the game with eight changes and as a result Seychelles team was the dominant side in most part of the game.

Maldives created the first chance in the 4th minute, Umair crossed a free kick into the six yard box but Niyaz, Shiyam and Assad all missed the ball to nod from close range.

In the 13th minute Ali Fasir could have put the home side in front but only the keeper to beat his shot went over the cross bar.

Seychelles had their keeper to thank in the 42nd minute when he stopped Fasir thunderous effort after their defenders blocked Shiyam’s shot.

Seychelles scored the opener just four minutes into the second half. Leroy headed from close range the cross supplied by Nancy.

Maldives brought in Ali Ashfaaq and Ibrahim Fazeel afterwards and strengthened the attacking but in the 70th minute Ashfaaq was red carded after he protested against referee’s decision. A yellow card was followed by a straight red card.

When all the hopes were fading away, Ibrahim Fazeel picked up a nice through ball from Akram and sent the ball beyond keeper to make it 1-1.

In the extra period of the game, Seychelles defender brought Ahmed Rasheed inside the penalty area resulting a penalty kick. Ibrahim Fazeel comfortably sent the ball into the top corner to make it 2-1.
