Korangi Baloch top Group ‘B’ with win in KUFL

Korangi Baloch FC (Sharafi) topped Group ‘B’ with a 1-0 win over Drigh Road Union yesterday, 26 November 2011, in the 9th UBL Omni Karachi United Football League 2011-12. Amjad Baloch’s lone goal for the Sharafi side proved to be enough at their Korangi Baloch Stadium home turf. The win helped Korangi Baloch to 10 points from 4 games while Drigh Road Union are struggling 3 points from as many games completed.

The game was a tense encounter between both sides from the start. Drigh Road Union showed a much better performance and desire than in previous games as they took the much stronger Korangi Baloch side to the sword from the very start. Drigh Road Union strikers Noman Khan, Farzoq-e-Gul, Muhammad Haris, and Muhammad Hassan created some great chances, only for Korangi Baloch defence of Abdul Jabbar Jr., Abdul Wahid, Bahadur Ali, and goalkeeper Rustam Baloch to keep them at bay every time.

In 28th minute, Korangi Baloch took the lead as Amjad Baloch latched onto a pass from Aqeel Baloch to score for his side as the score was 1-0 at half time in favour of the home side. In 2nd half, the pace of the game did not die down as both sides continued to create chances. Korangi Baloch wasted two glorious chances to increase their lead as Aqeel Ahmed (61′) missed the target and Abdul Hafeez (72′) saw his shot saved by goalkeeper Muhammad Jahangir. Drigh Road Union also missed two glorious chances in final ten minutes as Noman Khan (81′) came close, and Farzoq-e-Gul’s 90th minute header came crashing off the crossbar.

At the final whistle, Korangi Baloch took a sigh of relief as they held on to a tight 1-0 win to rise to top of Group ‘B’. Referees were Abdul Karim, Khalid Mumtaz Jami, Ghulam Ali, and match commissioner Abdul Karim.

On Monday 28 November 2011, Korangi Baloch host fellow district side Baloch Mohammadan (Malir) while Baloch Mujahid (Ibrahim Hyderi) host Al-Shabaz (Korangi).
