WAPDA outplay PMC Athletico, PEL refuses to travel

Defending champions Wapda thrashed PMC Athletico 3-0 in the Pakistan Premier Football League in Faisalabad yesterday.

After a dull first-half Muhammad Afzal scored the opening goal of the match just three minutes after the restart. Khuda Bukhsh then doubled the lead in the 80th minute, and Zulfiqar Ali Shah sealed the victory with a goal in the final minute of the match.

Wapda were going through an indifferent season losing to KRL and Army in their last two matches but their coach Sharafat Ali was relieved after the convincing win.

“Bukhsh’s return has made a huge difference to the team,” Ali told The Express Tribune. “He was injured but I’m confident that we’ll pick up pace from here.

Athletico are a tough side on their home ground and we’re relieved to win. We’ve seen nine defeats during the competition and it’s difficult to keep the team together in a crisis.”

‘Pel aren’t bothered about their matches anymore’

Meanwhile, Baloch FC got a walkover as Pel failed to show up at the venue in Noshki.

“I think that Pel aren’t really bothered about their matches anymore since they’re at the bottom of the league,” said a match official. “They haven’t been travelling in Balochistan because of security concerns.”
