Last minute goal helps KPT hold PIA

KARACHI: Fareed Majeed’s last-gasp strike helped Karachi Port Trust (KPT) hold Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) to a 2-2 draw while Chaman’s Muslim FC jumped to the second place after playing a 1-1 draw against Police in matches of the 8th Pakistan Premier Football League held at different venues of the country on Saturday, 29 October 2011.

Here at the Peoples Sports Complex, the KPT-PIA battle remained tense with both sides offering tough resistance to each other. Naveed Ahmed gave KPT a 1-0 lead after just 5 minutes from start, but PIA responded strongly with goals from Shakir Lashari (37′) and Muhammad Ishtiaq (52′) to race to a 2-1 lead that almost won them the match. But Fareed Majeed made it 2-2 in stoppage time to share the points. In the output, KPT inflated their tally to 28 points from 22 matches while PIA, trailing fifth, moved to 39 points from 22.

Meanwhile, at the Sadiq Shaheed Stadium in Quetta, Police also played a 1-1 draw against Muslim FC to take their points to 20 from 21 matches. Muslim FC players looked tired throughout the game because they had also played against Afghan FC on Friday morning. Saeed Ahmed gave Muslim FC the lead in 53rd minute, only for Naseeb Ullah to equalise for Police in 75th minute.

But still a single point for Muslim FC in yesterday’s game guided them to occupy the second place behind KRL with 41 points from 22 appearances.
