GSA D-Goal returns after lull in Karachi violence

3 Tough Matches, 3 Tough Winners

 

The Tournament after a complete week of shutdown for the safety of footballers and management kicked of back in style in Karachi. On 26th August Friday 3 more second round winners made it through to the quarter final.

In the first match Free Stylers were matched against Lazy Boys, who were the first ever Runner ups of GSA D Goal. The match started with Lazy Boys in command with Mesum “Messi” leading from the front. The Twin threat of Free Stylers was created by Mehtab and Ghassan and Ghassan struck a real individual effort to give Free Stylers the lead. 1-0 at halftime. The second half start saw Lazy Boys pressing and equalizing through Talha “Terry” before Messi struck an amazing long distance goal and the match was turned on its head with Lazy Boys leading 2-1. Just before the end Mehtab’s skills bought him the luck needed as a deflection off him resulted in the second goal. 2-2 the final score. Free Stylers kept there nerve to run out 2-0 winners in the shoot out. Both attackers of Free Stylers are pictured.

The second match saw two favorites NUFC and Galacticos facing an early exit. In a game that was a true example of end to end football Galacticos took the lead through Gulshan Soccer Club midfielder Sameer Zafar. His countless tackles, passes and runs bought him a deserved goal. The lead lasted short as NUFC took advantage of a counter and got there equalizer. In the second it was again one end to the other with NUFC finishing very strong but the match ended 1-1. Finally in the penalties Galacticos proved 2nd time lucky as Manzoor struck the winning penalty, in a true Galactico moment he was only on the pitch for 2 minuntes and struck the winning penalty. 3-2 in the penalties. Sameer Zafar was the man of the match for his action packed performance and is featured in a pic.

The last fixture saw Karachi Giants FC Rovers take on Five Stars FC. FC Rovers had struck 10+ goals in the first match and started off as favorites and were slow to start but little did they realize that Five Stars featuring specialist Barra were going to dominate the early proceedings. Barra who is known as one of the kings in D Goal football produced a touch of class after another and struck a brilliant break away goal to give Five Stars the lead. That woke up the Rovers and they produced attack after another but some how luck failed them and Five Stars hung on for a 1-0 win. Barra who has won fans all across karachi by displaying his skills on the streets in Liyari, Dalmia and Lalu Khait is the featured player.
