Burma Mohd. and Hunter Sports reach Engro Vopak semis

The All Karachi Engro Vopak Invitational Football Cup 2011, organised by FC Rovers (Malir) and held at Baloch Mujahid Stadium in Ibrahim Hyderi, saw two quarter-final games being played on Thursday 30 June 2011. Burma Mohammadan (Korangi) beat Salaar Welfare Centre (Malir) 1-0 while Hunter Sports (Malir) overcame Madina Shabaz (Baldia Town) 6-5 on penalties to face each other in the semi-finals.

Saeed ur Rehman scored the lone goal for Burma Mohammadan with a well-struck 36th minute free-kick from just outside the penalty area that beat Salaar goalie Abdur Rauf. Both sides missed an incredible amount of chances throughout the match, with Burma Mohd strikers Saifullah, Jaffar, Noor Alam, and M Ishaq, and Salaar WC strikers M Asif, Sharif Baloch, Shiraz, and Abdus Salam all guilty of missing the target. Burma Mohammadan goalkeeper Abdul Ghani starred in the game as he kept out many Salaar shots to see his side go through to the semi-finals. The game was attended by Shahid Taj (Secretary, Karachi DFA Malir), Hassan Baloch DSP, Master Ghulam Rasool et al. as chief guests.

The second quarter-final was a cagey affair between Hunter Sports and Madina Shabaz. Both sides failed to score in normal time, forcing a penalty shoot-out to decide the winner. Both sides ended up taking 10 penalties each, with Hunter Sports eventually managing to prevail 6-5 over Madina Shabaz to face Burma Mohammadan in the semi-final on Saturday 2 July 2011.
