The All-Karachi Engro Vopak Football Cup 2011, organised by FC Rovers (Malir) at Baloch Mujahid Stadium in Ibrahim Hyderi, witnessed the results of its final two quarter-finals to complete the semi-final line-up.
In 3rd quarter final Baloch Mujahid got a narrow 1-0 win over Gulshan Soccer (DFA Central) while in 4th quarter-final Irfan Memorial (Landhi) overcame Aga Khan Gymkhana 6-5 in penalty shoot-out. Baloch Mujahid now face Irfan Memorial in the semi-finals on Saturday 2 July 2011 alongside the Burma Mohammadan and Hunter Sports semi-final clash. The final will be played on 3 July 2011.
Baloch Mujahid maintained dominance from the start against Gulshan Soccer with Muhammad Rizwan opening the scoring after just 10 minutes. Umer Bakhsh Baloch had a golden opportunity to increase Baloch Mujahid’s lead but his 59th minute penalty kick struck the post and rebounded as Baloch Mujahid won the game 1-0.
Irfan Memorial and Aga Khan Gymkhana failed to score in normal time, with Irfan Memorial’s Farhan Khan and Fazal Baloch missing two golden opportunities to score as the match had to be decided on penalties. Irfan Memorial prevailed 6-5 in shoot-out thanks to successful kicks by Fazal Baloch, Shahbaz Samoun, M Imran, Shoaib Khan, M Zahoor, and Khurram Khan that AKG goalie Ibrar Hussain failed to save while Afzal Baloch missed his try. AKG’s Arif Hussain, Sirajuddin, Ahmed Dad, Mir Gulab, Ibrar Hussain found the target but M Shakeeb and M Asim failed to score as Irfan Memorial won the game.
The respective quarter-finals were attended by guests Saleem Patni (ex-international, DFA Central president) and Shabaz Khan (Gizri Youth FC captain). Also present were other officials from clubs and various DFAs.
