Frontier College start with 7-1 win in Women Club Cup

Lahore, 15 April: Frontier College started the fourth edition of National Women Football Club Championship 2011 on winning note in Group-D when they thrashed Striker FC 7-1 at Frontier Women College, near Qisa Khawani Bazar, Peshawar City today. Meanwhile, FATA failed to turn up at the same venue and suffered 0-3 defeat at the hands of Peshawar Women FC. There will be no match on Saturday. The event will resume on Sunday, 17 April with ties Peshawar v Frontier (3.30 PM), FATA v Striker (5 PM).

The star performer for Frontier College in huge win was striker Ayesha. She struck in the 17th, 24th and 34th minute. Winger Sidra Rauf and Rabia Zaman earned brace. Sidra paved her way in for two goals in the 7th and 44th minute while Rabia entered her name in the scoresheet with goals in the 53rd and 77th minute. StrikerFC ‘s midfielder Mehroon earned consolation goal in the 41st minute.

The top two teams of Lahore and Islamabad zone will travel, alongwith Champion of Quetta, Karachi and Peshawar Zone, into 7th National Women Championship slated to run at Islamabad’s Jinnah Stadium from 17-30 September 2011. The field for qualification expanded to seven from four. The four qualifiers last year were Frontier College, Karachi’s Diya FC, Lahore’s Sport Sciences and Rawalpindi’s Young Rising Star.
